Social Campaign Links: Paid, Organic, and Creator Placements
A practical tagging workflow for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok without confusing reach with tracked visits.

Map the clickable placement
Start with the actual outbound link surface: a profile, an advertisement, a story link, or a creator’s landing page. A campaign URL only provides context when someone follows a link that contains it. It does not measure every view, reaction, or impression on the platform.
For a studio opening, use the platform as source, choose a medium that separates paid distribution from organic distribution, and keep studio_opening as campaign. Content can describe profile_bio, demo_video_a, or creator_directory. These are examples to adapt to your reporting vocabulary.

Keep changes interpretable
If you change the audience, creative, and landing page at the same time, a content label will not isolate which change caused a result. Keep a campaign register alongside the URLs that describes what each variant means.
A shared link copied into another app still carries its original labels. UTMs describe the link’s intended distribution, not a verified identity for the person or app that finally shared it. Treat unexpected traffic patterns as a reason to investigate, not proof of attribution fraud.
Handle dynamic values separately
Some advertising systems support placeholders that expand at delivery. Their syntax and supported fields differ. UTMCraft produces ordinary encoded URLs; it does not validate or expand ad-platform macros. Use the platform’s own documentation and preview before publishing a dynamic tracking template.
For static links, open the preview in the platform’s in-app browser and check the destination after redirects. For a creator placement, provide the finished link and a short description of where it belongs. Avoid putting a creator’s private contact details in parameters.
Before you publish
- Tag the actual outbound link, not an assumed clickable surface.
- Use separate medium conventions for paid and organic traffic.
- Keep a record of creative labels and their meaning.
- Validate dynamic macros in the ad platform itself.
